Greetings fellow personal-finance enthusiasts!
I live in New York City with my wife. We are both tech professionals who relocated to NYC from San Francisco about almost two years ago. Besides personal finance, I enjoy reading, volunteering, jigsaw puzzles and blogging about managing startups (https://medium.com/@jane_e_nevins).
My wife and I are in our mid-30s and are both very careers focussed right now. Although, we have a fantasy of retiring early and driving a minnie winnie around Austrailia.
We are pretty conservative financially. No debt, 2 years of savings in cash, diversified portfolios and retirement accounts mostly in ETFs.
As we struggle to figure out what to do next with our lives, we have a big pile of cash because if we want to purchase a home in NYC, which is a pretty big if, we need to have 2 years of monthly expenses on hand to get into a co-op building, in addition to the downpayment on the loan.
I was one of the first 11 people at Lyft, so I’m hoping for a windfall later this year. And I’m looking for a job — after my last startup in NYC blew up — so I have a lot of time on my hands!
I look forward to learning about the other folks in the forum.
Jane, I didn’t realize you worked for Lyft. That would be great if they went public. I will be sure to check out your blog.
